Yes, overpitching is not a good idea and can lead to nasty defects, yeast autolysis... and more badness...
but at an O.G. of 1.085, pitching x2 the white labs vial (which is slightly less than optimal pitch rate for an average gravity of 1.050 or so, but often sufficient) would not necessarily be detrimental in conjunction with increased aeration before pitching.
Probably equivalent to making a healthy starter.

Rock on.

O-my God, love the cast and all the interest. I am not sure about 2 x pitching. I think it is way better to do a strong starter. lets all keep thinking beyond recipes. later john

ah, Zendik Cult Farm...Gabe, here's my memories of delivering you wife-to-be: we drove 13hrs with an SUV filled with all that she could fit...after I helped her unload her stuff, i lit up a cigarette, you know, outdoors, in the mountains...then our little host/guide says "sorry, you can't smoke here, you can go to the end of the driveway"...so i put it out on my tounge, hugged Celena goodbye, and drove back to Texas...and drove off from you're local gas station and the next 2 or 3 that i filled up at without paying. memories.

Yo- I have a dilemma- I recently transferred my beer to a glass carboy for secondary fermentation and 3 days later this thin layer of white film developed on the top of level of the beer. I'm thinkin it's mold- should I throw it out? Is there anything I can do or is this batch toasted?
I can send a picture of it if that helps.
help.

Hey- love the podcast! I was wondering if you know anything about using molasses to prime beer? If so what amount would be used and what could I expect from it? I was going to use it in a stout I made.
Thanks and keep up the good work!

Many thanks, John's Mom, for your kind words.
I know I spend alot of time on discussing beer, as that is truly my passion, but you can expect more on winemaking in the June 6th broadcast.
Thanks again!
